Description At the crossroads between modernity and tradition, Tecedeiras is an iconic Douro brand, one of the first in the region to go beyond Port production and produce lively red table wines. Its hard work, clambering up and down the schist steep terraces, selecting only the best grape bunches. When the grapes arrive at the cellar classic winemaking methods are employed to highlight the terroir and grape varieties. Rui Cunha’s winemaking is rigorous but low in intervention, highlighting the terroir and grape varieties characteristics. The result is amazing wines: complex, intense, with great ageing capacity and with the Douro terroir showing a great potential as food friendly wines. This estate is upstream from Pinhão in S. João da Pesqueira in the Cima Corgo part of the Douro valley. All the parcels are “A” grade vineyards and a large part are 95 years old. Adding to these vineyards are selected parcels of old vineyards from Sabrosa area. The grapes are hand-picked plot-by-plot to guarantee optimum ripeness at picking. Transport is in small boxes to avoid crushing. Fruit is hand-sorted, then gently de-stemmed and pressed followed by cold maceration at controlled temperature. Fermented is in stainless steel vats with gentle, daily pump-overs before pressing. The wines are aged in stainless steel on fine lees before bottling. Vibrant, deep ruby colour with youthful, intense notes of fresh, black fruit with a hint of flowers.
