Description This white Reserva wine is made by Peter Bright, an adventurous Australian wine-maker who travelled the Europe making wines and settled in Portugal where he set about modernizing the local wine scene focussing on bringing out the best in local indigenous grape varieties The vineyard Boa Vista is just south of Portalegre in the Alto Alentejo some 300m to 600m above sea-level and the Alentejan plain to the south. Its still hot during day, tempered with Atlantic sea breezes, but cool nights allow the grapes some respite and keep that all-important freshness and acidity. Siria and Arinto are the main grape varieties with smaller amounts of Verdelho, Gouveio, Viognier, Antao Vaz, Encruzado. Siria gives lovely aromatic flavours of apricot, peach and melon while the Arinto provides lively, refreshing acidity, often with a mineral quality, along with gentle flavours reminiscent of apple, lime and lemon. Some of these grapes come from old vineyards up in the mountains which are bush vines and can only be hand harvested. The grapes are fermented separately in used barrels with battonage giving wonderful layered complexity. These wines are wonderful for drinking now or laying down.
