Description This wine is made by Peter Bright, an adventurous Australian wine-maker who travelled the Europe making wines and settled in Portugal where he set about modernizing the local wine scene focussing on bringing out the best in local varietals. The vineyard Boa Vista is just south of Portalegre in the Alto Alentejo some 300m to 600m above sea-level and the Alentejan plain to the south. Its still hot during day, tempered with Atlantic sea breezes, but cool nights allow the grapes some respite and keep that all-important freshness and acidity. Encruzado is mostly associated with Dao region, a highland region to the north and was neglected until relatively recently. Its now undergoing a revival and flourishes in Alto Alentejo where the granite bedrock and cool night temperatures are very similar. The grapes for this wine are made in the Outeiro vineyard and a small amount of this wine is made each year. Subtle notes of citrus and white peach. In the mouth it presents a refreshing minerality, yet staying smooth and elegant, with a complex finish from ageing in small barrels. flavours, a lively acidity and ages for many years.
