DescriptionOne of the biggest limitations of microcontrollers like the ESP8266 or standard Arduino boards is the severe lack of Analog-to-Digital Converter (ADC) pins. If you are building a custom MIDI keyboard with dozens of potentiometers, or a smart-agriculture dashboard monitoring 16 different soil moisture sensors, the CD74HC4067 Multiplexer Module is the exact board you need. This clever breakout board acts as a digital traffic cop, allowing you to connect 16 separate analog devices to a single analog pin on your microcontroller. How It Works (The Rotary Switch Analogy)Think of the CD74HC4067 as a lightning-fast, 16-position mechanical rotary switch. You have 16 input channels (labeled C0 through C15) and one common output channel (labeled SIG). To tell the chip which of the 16 channels you want to connect to the SIG pin, you use the four digital address pins (S0, S1, S2, and S3). By sending a 4-bit binary number to these pins (for example, 0101 for channel 5), the internal switch instantly connects C5 to SIG. You take your analog reading, change the binary address to the next channel, and repeat the process!Fully Bi-Directional (Demultiplexing)Because the internal switches of the CD74HC4067 are truly bidirectional, this board isn’t just for reading sensors. You can also use it as a Demultiplexer. You can feed a single signal (like a serial TX line or a PWM signal) into the SIG pin, and route it out to any one of the 16 channels to control multiple devices.Key Features:Massive Expansion: Turn 1 analog pin and 4 digital pins into 16 analog pins.Analog & Digital Compatible: Works perfectly with varying analog voltages as well as strict high/low digital logic.Enable Pin (EN): Features an active-low Enable pin. Pulling this pin HIGH instantly disconnects all channels, completely isolating the SIG pin.Low “ON” Resistance: Ensures that your analog signals pass through the chip with minimal voltage drop or distortion.Technical Specifications:Logic Family: HC (High-Speed CMOS)Operating Voltage (VCC): 2V to 6V DCNumber of Channels: 16 (C0 – C15)Address Pins: 4 (S0, S1, S2, S3)Common Signal Pin: 1 (SIG)Operating Temperature: -55°C to 125°CDimensions: ~41mm x 18mmIdeal Applications:Custom DJ MIDI controllers and synthesizers (reading multiple potentiometers)Smart agriculture and weather stations with massive sensor arraysExpanding the single ADC pin of the ESP8266 (NodeMCU)Routing serial communication (TX/RX) to multiple devicesEducational data-logging projects for electronics bootcamps
