DescriptionEvery battery-powered project needs a reliable way to disconnect power to save energy. The SPDT Mini Slide Switch is a tiny, durable, through-hole switch designed specifically to route power or logic signals across your custom printed circuit boards. Its low-profile design ensures it doesn’t take up valuable space on your PCB, while the metal shielding provides mechanical strength during continuous use.Understanding SPDT (Single Pole, Double Throw)This switch features three pins. The middle pin is the Common (Pole), and the two outer pins are the Throws. When you push the black slider to the left, it internally connects the middle pin to the left pin. When you push the slider to the right, it breaks the left connection and connects the middle pin to the right pin.Two Primary Ways to Use It:As an ON/OFF Power Switch: Wire your battery’s positive voltage to the middle pin, and your circuit board’s power input to one of the outer pins. Leave the third pin completely disconnected. Now, sliding the switch will make or break the main power connection. As a Logic Selector (State Toggle): Wire the middle pin to a digital input on your Arduino or ESP32. Wire the left pin to your 5V/3.3V line, and the right pin to Ground. Sliding the switch will now physically toggle that digital pin between a clean HIGH and LOW state, perfect for changing operational modes in your code without external pull-up resistors.Prototyping NoteWhile this switch is the industry standard for soldered PCBs and perfboards, the thin metal legs may not grip securely into the spring clips of a standard solderless breadboard. For breadboard testing, it is highly recommended to solder these legs to standard 2.54mm male header pins first to ensure a stable electrical connection.Key Features:Tactile Feedback: Provides a distinct, physical snap when changing positions, preventing accidental partial-switches.Compact Footprint: Takes up minimal space on a PCB, ideal for miniature wearables and handheld gadgets.Durable Construction: Features a folded metal casing to protect the internal sliding contacts from dust and physical impact.Technical Specifications:Switch Configuration: SPDT (Single Pole, Double Throw)Number of Pins: 3Mounting Style: Through-Hole (Vertical)Typical Current Rating: ~0.5A at 50V DC (Designed for low-voltage signal and power routing)Contact Resistance: ≤ 30mΩInsulation Resistance: ≥ 100MΩActuator Material: ThermoplasticIdeal Applications:Main power ON/OFF toggles for battery-operated IoT devicesHardware mode selection (e.g., toggling between Auto and Manual modes)Simple left/right audio signal routingReplacing broken slide switches on commercial toys and electronics
